Regional Networks
Mountain Forum is a global network of networks driven by individual and organisational members. Five regional nodes or network centres around the world form the backbone of the Mountain Forum structure, which has its secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal.
These regional networks are autonomous and function independently serving the interests of the membership in their respective regions. All the networks have their distinct challenges and carry out activities based on the needs and demand of their users.
These regional networks provide a space to creating regional linkages between individuals and organisations concerned with mountain cultures, environment and sustainable development. Users can join these regional networks by enrolling for membership, which is free for both organisations and individuals. A key platform for members to interact with each other is regional discussion lists.
All five regional networks have a strong presence on the Board of Directors through representatives of their respective host institutions. Additionally, members of Mountain Forum from different regions elect representatives to serve on the Board of Directors.
Only individual members can run for regional elections and represent their regions on the Board of Directors. Organisational members cannot run for elections or represent regional members but have voting rights to choose a representative to the Board of Directors.
Regional representatives to the Mountain Forum Board are chosen through electronic elections every two to three years.
